Why Greek honey?
Greek honey is often hailed as liquid gold and it is one of the most nutrient-dense natural foods. It has been used for centuries for its medicinal properties, offering benefits that go far beyond just its delicious taste. Whether used to soothe a sore throat or as a natural sweetener, Greek honey provides numerous health benefits. Greek honey is not just an everyday sweetener; it is a food packed with nutrients. Its unique composition comes from the diverse flora of Greece, where wildflowers, herbs, and pine trees thrive. The climate and geographical conditions allow for the production of pure, raw honey, rich in enzymes, vitamins, and minerals. Greek honey is known for its antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal properties. It is often used to treat minor burns, cuts, and sore throats, thanks to its ability to kill bacteria and promote healing. In addition to its medicinal properties, Greek honey is packed with antioxidants, which help combat free radicals and reduce oxidative stress, lowering the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease and cancer. The natural sugars in honey are easily absorbed, providing a quick energy boost without the crash associated with processed sugar.
Moreover, honey is a natural prebiotic, helping to nourish beneficial bacteria in the gut. This makes it particularly helpful for improving digestion and overall gut health. Whether you’re fighting off a cold or looking to add a nutrient boost to your diet, Greek honey offers a powerful natural solution.
Melodia honey
The word melodia (or melody) in Greek means a sweet or agreeable succession or arrangement of sounds whilst all the winds with melody are ringing and/or a rhythmic succession of single tones organized as an aesthetic whole.
Our honey supplier is Melodia Ltd and their honeys have such premium flavour that it’s a like a tasty and aromatic melody on your palate. They are a family business that produces unprocessed and organic honey of high quality. The company was created in 2013 thanks to the hard work and passion of beekeeper and producer Kiriakos Viros. It is based in the middle-mountain settlement Karitsa in Epirus, Greece. Today, it has in its disposal 650 beehives, all organic certified. It transfers its apiaries seasonally in mountainous and pristine locations like the Pindos mountain range. The ideal ecosystems, the affluence of the wild herbs and the luxuriant forests offer rare, single-variety honeys of high nutritional value.
Organic Beekeeping in action
Melodia excludes completely the use of antibiotics and pesticides. That way it protects the pure and natural character of the beehives’ microcosm and supports the bees’ cycle of life so that they can produce their top quality products with magical precision and method. They apply traditional methods of natural filtering (natural clarification in barrels). Without thermal or any other treatment, they produce completely raw and unprocessed honey that maintains its natural consistence and taste.
They produce a variety of honeys that can be found here.
